Hello, Hello!

Welcome to Real Life. Life is an ever-changing series of goodbyes and hellos. Sometimes, those changes land in a heap of an emotional week. For me, it was the last week of June.
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland" (Isaiah 43:19).
My dad died a year ago, June 28. He was taking a mid-morning nap when God gently called him home. Only a year, yet it seems so long since I felt his hug, saw his smile, or heard his, “My Peguška!” One day, I’ll see his smile again. I’m so grateful for that wonderful hope I have in Christ—the Resurrection and the Life. But today, I must live our goodbye.

The same week that marked the one-year anniversary of my dad's death, I said goodbye to Moody Radio Cleveland. After working there seven years, my position was eliminated due to budget cuts. I'm not mad. Moody Radio is fiscally responsible. I appreciate that. I love Moody Radio. I believe in Moody Radio. It has mentored, discipled, informed, and encouraged me along my Christian journey—almost 40 years. But, I will miss my friends and my work-ministry there. It was hard to say “Goodbye, Moody Radio.”

With my goodbye to MR, came a “hello” to the construction industry. I landed a job with Hill International, a construction management firm. Before my children were born, I was secretary to the chief engineer of a major heavy-highway contractor. I’m excited to be back in the industry. I like construction people. They tend to be unpretentious, salt-of-the-earth types. I'm looking forward to building new relationships and learning new skills and responsibilities. Hello, Hill!

The last change at the end of June came with my son’s wedding. Dennis was launching a new family. And so, my husband and I said goodbye to his childhood, home school years, college days, and early adulthood. He'd no longer be coming in from work asking, "what's for supper," or be sharing his unique perspective on the latest happenings, or be providing his mom with 24/7 tech support. But, it was definitely time. With our goodbye, came a sweet hello. For, we gained a daughter (-in-law). After years of being outnumbered gender-wise (3-1) in our little family, Alisar has helped even the score (3-2). She’s a beautiful young woman of faith. We feel so blessed to say, “Hello, Alisar!”

“Hello, hello! I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello.” —The Beatles

What's your latest hello/goodbye?

  1. I love the photos and your perspective. Change can be positive, especially if we grasp God's intention (or at least His goodness) in it.
